Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & drive to Volcanoes National Park
Our safari guide will welcome you at the airport and drive you to Kigali and have a briefing concerning your safari. Following lunch, leave for Parc National des Volcanoes at 2:00pm. The trip northwards takes you through the gorgeous terraced hillsides that display a lot about of Rwanda’s landscape, slowly climbing to the bottom of the overwhelming Virunga volcanoes, at times with as many as five peaks visible. Overnight at Volcanoes Virunga Lodge (FB).
Day 2: Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes National Park
Take breakfast and head for, gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans. Tracking the gorillas via the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a superb experience. If you are chanced, you are able to reach the gorillas, take an hour with them, and return to the lodge in time for a belatedly lunch. Most of gorilla families however are more hard to pin down and tracking can take a full day, particularly when it is wet and muddy. Overnight at Volcanoes Virunga Lodge (FB).
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking in Rwanda
Take a tour to the golden monkeys or take a trip to Gisenyi, stopover at Ross Carr's orphanage and Lake Kivu, climb the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes, or trek to Dian Fossey's grave, or tour the local school and community projects or walk to Lake Bulera. Overnight at Volcanoes Virunga Lodge (FB).
Day 4: Rwanda Gorilla Tour to Dian Fossey's Grave
Rise up for a morning breakfast, rest or walk close to the Lodge, take a tour to the golden monkeys’ territory or trek to Dian Fossey's grave. following lunch drive to Uganda. Overnight and dinner Volcanoes Mount Gahinga Lodge (FB).
Day 5: Gorilla Tracking in Mgahinga (Uganda)
Make your own choice to either go gorilla tracking once more in Mgahinga/Nkuringo, or hike a volcano, or take on a nature walk, or take a tour to the golden monkeys’ territory in Mgahinga. Overnight and dinner at Volcanoes Mount Gahinga Lodge (FB).
Day 6: Drive to Kigali City in Rwanda
Depart for Kigali in Rwanda and in case time allows, head for a trip to the city as well as a tour to the market, pottery project, handicraft shops, the Franco-Rwandan cultural centre and the genocide memorial. travel to the airport (HB).
